Tears portray a multitude of emotions — from grief to happiness, from pain to confusion. Yet, we are told tears are a sign of weakness and we must always try to suppress them.

But these emotions make us human. They help us empathize with others. They are a sign of what we have been through and what has made us stronger in the end.

Crying has been proven to have a multitude of benefits — both psychologically and biologically. Just like a baby’s first cry helps them breathe, a good cry can help us breathe again when everything seems to be closing down around us.

So, it is okay to release our overwhelming emotions by shedding tears. It is okay to cry in public. It is okay to cry for no particular reason.
Let’s normalize crying. Let’s normalize emotions.
